It started in the Shenandoah Valley after love crept up on them. When Adri proposed to Meghan, they knew they wanted their wedding day to reflect the familiar magic of a Virginia mountain range. For couples getting out of the city to get married, this Timberville, VA wedding venue offers something the city simply can’t: wide open space, mountain air, and room to breathe. This Showalter’s Orchard and Greenhouse wedding was about authenticity, staying grounded amidst chaos, and leaning into community.
Getting Ready in the Farmhouse
In the throes of autumn, Meghan and Adri rented out the venue’s on-site accommodations to prioritize space and togetherness. They got hair and makeup done by Tierra Parker with Makeup by Holly Beauty Partners in their farmhouse rooms surrounded by their closest loved ones.

To keep themselves grounded in the purpose of their big day, Meghan and Adri agreed early on that they wanted first looks, private vows, and a quiet moment together before the ceremony.

Amongst the hills of the Shenandoah Valley, they laughed and cried as they shared earnest words of comfort. It was the perfect way to start their day together and one of many intimate wedding moments they intentionally carved out for just the two of them.

A Ceremony in the Shenandoah Valley
Though their guest count topped 100, their ceremony felt intimate and cozy, nestled in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. This queer wedding in the Virginia mountains was as personal as it was breathtaking. With the Blue Ridge Mountains as their backdrop, Meghan and Adri were first welcomed by their siblings.

Keeping family at the center, their parents walked both partners down the aisle before meeting their close friend, Erin, at the altar, ready to officiate. Guests were overcome with emotion as Adri’s mom shared a poem written by their aunt.

The newlyweds tied the knot and were showered with rose petals on their way back down the aisle.

Portraits and Cocktail Hour
Meghan and Adri headed to the Greenhouse suite for family portraits. Outside, cocktail hour began as DJ Amy Reid of Party Girl Entertainment got guests feeling ready to mingle. Asian-owned Mashita Catering served appetizers. Meanwhile, the Kinfete team worked their magic, repurposing ceremony decor to transform the reception space.

Meghan and Adri stole another quiet one-on-one moment together before welcoming guests into the reception. This small but intentional pause became a throughline of their entire day.

These stolen moments with one another served as a grounding space, a reminder of everything they had built together since their engagement. A quick bustle of Meghan’s dress later, and they were ready for their grand entrance.

The Penafiels Have Entered the Greenhouse
A mirror etched with ‘hail and well met, fellow travelers’ greeted guests as they arrived. A small but telling detail that illustrated the kind of night Meghan and Adri had envisioned for their Showalter’s Orchard and Greenhouse Wedding. This wasn’t just a wedding reception. It was a gathering.

The reception kicked off with Meghan and Adri’s wedding party dancing to Chappell Roan, bringing the high energy this celebration deserved. Then came the moment everyone was waiting for: the Penafiels’ grand entrance.

Adri opened the reception with a heartfelt speech before Mashita Catering served a buffet-style dinner, followed by a perfectly unannounced cake cutting. Buttercream Dreams crafted a cake as beautiful as it was delicious. Desserts from Bittersweet Bakery and BMC Bakes rounded out the spread, giving guests plenty of reasons to go back for seconds.

The reception space itself told its own story. Florals by Native Bloom brought the deep green and terracotta palette to life, while rentals from Argent Events tied the whimsical garden-party aesthetic together seamlessly. Once everyone had their food, Meghan and Adri’s family delivered warm toasts that set the tone for the rest of the night.

A Pikachu Toss and a Party Dress
Both Meghan and Adri shared a sentimental dance with their fathers before blessing everyone with their first dance as a couple. As the dance floor opened up, Meghan slipped into her party dress and the energy shifted into full celebration mode. They added their own touch of sentiment with a one-of-a-kind Pikachu toss in place of the traditional bouquet toss.

Celebrating queer love has always been about more than just the couple. It’s about the community that shows up around them. Meghan and Adri loved watching their family and friends come together to create something truly unique.

Their loved ones having interactions they wouldn’t typically have, in a space they wouldn’t typically be in, was what made the night so memorable. Adri recalls seeing their 70-year-old Ecuadorian dad dancing to a Beyoncé song with Meghan’s English mother and knowing they’d done something right.
A Not-So-Grand Exit
Their late-night snack of buns and coffee was the perfect cozy cap to an evening that had been anything but ordinary. Originally, Meghan and Adri had planned a traditional send-off. But when the last song, A Long and Happy Life by Delta Rae, filled the room, they made an in-the-moment decision to skip the grand exit and opt for something quieter.

On a night so often heavily choreographed, they didn’t want the production of it all. Instead, they got to sit back and watch as their guests made their way back to their rooms, quietly reflecting on the joy the night had brought everyone. For two people who had traded the city for the mountains and the grand gesture for a genuine one, it was the most fitting ending imaginable.

Meghan and Adri pulled off a Showalter’s Orchard and Greenhouse wedding that celebrated love in all its forms. A fall garden party wrapped in deep greens and terracotta, lantern light, and mountain air, surrounded by everyone who matters most.
